Francesco Aiello

My research focuses on supporting sport practitioners’ decision-making by generating robust evidence and translating it into applied practice. My work centres on injury epidemiology and mechanisms, training load, fatigue monitoring, and post-exercise recovery. Prior to joining UoB, I worked in elite football across the English Premier League, Italian Serie A, and most recently at Olympique de Marseille as Lead Sport Scientist. This experience provides me with a strong understanding of the data, questions, and practical constraints within professional sport, enabling effective collaboration with practitioners and applied research in real-world settings.
