Co-Director
Susie has been with SAMBa since 2014, first as Centre Manager, and now Co-Director. Before that she worked in Research and Impact Services at the University of Bath, at EPSRC, and at Bath Central Library. In a previous life, Susie obtained a PhD in Organometallic Chemistry.
As well as overseeing the long-term strategic delivery of SAMBa, Susie has a cross-campus role working with other doctoral investments and sits on the University’s Research Culture Steering Group, and the Athena Swan Self-Assessment Team.
Nationally, Susie was a founder member of the PRISM network (https://www.pris-managers.ac.uk/) and now sits on the Advisory Board. She is also an Advisory Board member and Inclusion Advocate for the EDI Hub+ (https://edihubplus.ac.uk/).

Executive Team
Dr Michael Murray is a Lecturer in the Department of Mathematical Sciences and is interested in the theoretical foundations and technological development of modern machine learning systems.
Dr Eric Hester is a Lecturer in the Department of Mathematical Sciences and his research develops accurate models and efficient simulations for multiphase systems in continuum mechanics, with applications from optimising manufacture times in small-scale industrial microfluidics, to assessing planetary-scale influence of ice-ocean interactions in global climate modelling.
Dr Eike Mueller is a Reader in the Department of Mathematical Sciences with an interest in numerical techniques for simulating systems at all length scales, from high resolution atmospheric models to subatomic particles.

Lucie provides support for all SAMBa activities including recruitment, induction, training, events, marketing and communication.
Executive team
Dr Christian Rohrbeck is a Senior Lecturer and his research focuses on advancing and combining methodology from several statistical areas, such as Bayesian clustering, extreme value theory, nonparametric regression and spatial statistics.
Professor Matthias Ehrhardt is a Reader in the Department of Mathematical Sciences and is interested in the mathematics of data science, particularly the interface of optimization, inverse problems and machine learning.
Professor Tim Rogers is interested in understanding and predicting the behaviour of complicated random events and processes, in particular when there are network or spatial structures involved.
Professor Alex Cox is Co-Director of SAMBa and Deputy Head of the Department of Mathematical Sciences. Alex is interested in research questions arising in probability and their applications in mathematical finance.
Dr Marcel Ortgiese is a Reader in the Department of Mathematical Sciences. Marcel’s research interests are in probability theory, in particular in stochastic systems that involve a spatial or network component.
Centre Coordinator
Lou Adkin delivers the administrative support for SAMBa, oversees the admissions process, and supports programme delivery.
