Fernando studied pure maths at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he developed a strong interest in probability and graph theory. His thesis, titled “Synchronisation on Random Graphs”, explored a dynamic variant of the Kuramoto model, which involves differential equations, dynamical systems, network theory, and probability to describe synchronization in coupled oscillators. Wanting to do something more applied, Fernando’s current interests lie in inverse problems, which he aims to focus on during his PhD research.

Outside of maths, Fernando is a big fan of science fiction. He also enjoys reading, playing board games, and painting. His favourite games are MTG and Warhammer 40K.
